QC Manager

Ocean Beauty Seafoods is looking for a Quality Control Manager for Value Added Products and Off Site Inspections! This position will oversee product that is co-packed for us at various processing plants.
The position would require you to work at the processing facility of where the product is being packed.
These plants are located as far north as Bellingham and south to Tacoma.
Pay ranges from $60,000 to $69,000 annual salary.
Essential Functions:
Your primary responsibility will be to conduct off-site and on-site inspections to verify that value-added products co-packed for Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC (OBS) by various seafood manufacturing firms are produced to OBS and customer food safety and quality specifications, and confirm they are following FDA cGMP requirements.
Routinely provide a written report of off-site and on-site inspections to identified OBS staff (e.
g.
, VP Manufacturing, QA Manager, Procurement, etc.
) summarizing the inspectional/verification activities performed at co-packing firms and relevant findings.
This may include obtaining relevant copies of QC records or procedures from the Facilitate, when necessary, collection of and submittal of raw material, ingredient, intermediate product, and finished product samples for either internal QC and Sales evaluation or for analysis by independent, private laboratories (e.
g.
, for sensory, microbiological, or chemical testing), and will write reports to identified OBS staff of the inspection/verification activities conducted at the co-packing firms.
Interface and communicate with OBS Value-Added Production/Planning staff and Procurement staff in order to plan their travel/visits to various co-packing firms, for executing the responsibilities described above.
Interface and communicate with appropriate co-packing firm staff (e.
g.
, co-packers QC Manager, Production Manager, etc.
), to facilitate execution of the responsibilities described above.
Work with co-packing firm staff during on-site inspectional/verification activities to ensure product is produced to OBS and customer food safety and quality specification.
This includes, as necessary, providing direction and instruction to appropriate co-packing firm staff if product discovered out-of-specification, to ensure such product is held, re-worked, and re-verified to meet OBS food safety and quality specifications.
Interact with Corporate Procurement staff to plan and perform inspections of seafood raw material for acceptability to procure/purchase, for use in OBS VA or Smoked operations.
Create and maintain specifications for Value Added items produced both domestically and internationally.
Conduct in-depth reviews of value-added items on an annual basis to verify that product is still meeting food safety and quality expectations.
Provide direction, instruction/training, or clarification to co-packing firm staff on OBS and customer food safety and/or quality expectations, should such staff have questions regarding our food safety or quality standards/specifications.
Ensure that OBS and customer product quality specifications that are provided to co-packing firms are kept up-to-date and available for both OBS and co-packing firm Manufacturing and QA staff.
Develop/write new product quality specifications as directed by OBS VP Manufacturing and/or QA Manager, Tech Services.
Assist Corporate QA Manager Technical Services and the QC Manager-Renton in incoming inspections of procured raw material seafood items, ingredients, or finished products received.
Create and maintain specifications for Value Added Specifications Will be expected to work with the QC Manager-Renton to provide assistance with QC coverage if additional assistance is required doing checks.
Follows all OBS and Co-packer safety policies, GMP/Personal hygiene policies, and procedures.
Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required.
REQUIRMENTS:
Knowledge of seafood processing and processed foods.
Bachelors in Biology or related field Bachelors in Food Science or related field 5 years working in seafood and/or quality control, seafood inspection, and seafood HACCP experience Valid drivers license Knowledge of FDA regulations relating to the seafood food industry (HACCP, cGMPs).
Must also have good interpersonal skills, written and verbal communications skills, and basic math skills.
